Overview

The National Allotment Map is a map layer locating all the allotment sites in the UK. It can be edited and updated by any public sector body or by the National Allotment Society themselves.

This is a "bottom-up" approach to map editing because we know that Local Councils have the most detailed knowledge of local assets, and are best placed to add accurate information.

This layer exists because there isn't an accurate and detailed national picture of the nation's allotments, and having one will help:

  • Local Councils plan for them
  • Have Local Authorities confidently fund them
  • Have the public be made aware of them

By contributing to the map you are helping prove the concept that high quality data can be created by Local Councils that benefit themselves and others. In time, this concept may allow for datasets to be funded and therefore offset the cost of XMAP or Parish Online software subscriptions.

Compatibility

This layer is available to edit by:

  • Parish Online subscribers
  • Local Authorities

IMPORTANT NOTE: This layer is intended for allotment site boundaries only. Any individual plots will be deleted. Please use another layer for individual plots.
